Born and raised in Phila in a blue collar neighborhood; went to public schools until 9th grade when I got a terrific break and got a scholarship to an outstanding private school both athletically and academically. Played 3 sports and was all-league in basketball and baseball and second team all league in football. Got a another break when I got a scholarship to Colgate University which had a great baseball program at the time, making the NCAA tournament my sophomore yr. and captained the team my senior year. Then two years in sales in Kansas City with the Armstrong Cork Co, interrupted by 6 months active duty in the Marine Corps. Back to Philadelphia for an MBA at the Wharton School. After graduating from Wharton accepted a job with General Mills in marketing and ultimately General Management. Retired at age 56 as President of the Gold Medal Division and a Senior VP of the company. Bought the Duluth Dukes baseball team in 1994 (same league that the St Paul Saints were in until recently becoming a Twins affiliate). Won the Northern Lg Championship in 1997. Sold the team in 2001
