Former State Senator, Sheriff, Security & Anit-Terrorism Expert
Patrick McGowan is a retired law enforcement executive with 32 years of law
enforcement experience, including 20 years with the Minneapolis Police
Department - where he was decorated for bravery and 12 years as Hennepin County
Sheriff.
He was a recognized Counter-Terrorism expert and in addition, taught college,
served as a guest lecturer and is a former Minnesota State Senator.
In 1988, while still serving with the Minneapolis Police Department, Mr.
McGowan was elected to the Minnesota State Senate:
He held the distinction of being only the second police officer in the history
of our State ever elected to the Minnesota Senate.
In 1989, he was selected as “Freshman Legislator of the Year” by “Politics
in Minnesota.”
From 1991 to January 1995, he served as Assistant Republican Leader of
the Senate
He was instrumental in all major crime legislation passed during his tenure
and received numerous honors while serving as a Minnesota State
Senator.
As Sheriff of Hennepin County:
From January 2000 thru December 2001 - Sheriff McGowan served as
President of the Major County Sheriffs’ Association which was comprised
of the 82 largest Sheriff’s Offices in the United States. As one of the 4
original founders and President, he sat on sat on a Terrorism Advisory
Board to then FBI Director Bob Muller.
In 2005, Sheriff McGowan was selected as “National Sheriff of the Year” by
the National Sheriffs’ Association which represents the 3,000 plus sheriffs
across America.
He retired as Hennepin County Sheriff at the end of 2006.
Additionally, he is a veteran of the United States Air Force – Honorably Discharged.
