Larry Haeg is a retired EVP of corporate communications at Wells Fargo & Company and a former member of the Company’s management committee.  He’s a graduate of Saint John’s Prep and Saint John’s University of Collegeville, and received his Master’s degree in mass communications from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.  He spent fourteen years at WCCO Radio in news and programming, four years as a director of public relations at The Pillsbury Company, and twenty-one years at the former Norwest Corporati0n and Wells Fargo. In 1999 he was one of about a dozen Norwest senior executives based in Minneapolis who moved to San Francisco after Norwest acquired Wells Fargo, changed its name to Wells Fargo and moved its headquarters in San Francisco. He was a member of the downtown Minneapolis Rotary Club for forty years, and was the Club’s president in the early 1990s.  He also was president of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, one of the founders of the Twin Cities Marathon in the early 1980s, and is a former trustee of the College of Saint Benedict.  He and his wife Mary live in Saint Paul, have been married fifty-seven years, have five children, and are expecting their tenth grandchild next month.

Peter Carlson

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

A native Minnesotan, Peter worked as a Lutheran church musician for 17 years before turning to a career in nonprofit management. He served as the General Manager of The Rose Ensemble in St. Paul and Managing Director of Yellow Tree Theatre in Osseo. Peter has a B.A. in Music from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, a Master of Sacred Music degree from Luther Seminary and St. Olaf College, and has completed the “Mini MBA” in Nonprofit Management at St. Thomas University. A frequent volunteer, he has served as a Board Member for multiple nonprofits in the Twin Cities area.

Peter loves to travel and has always had special interest in international service programs. He has been to Africa several times, both as a tourist and with community development organizations.  He is passionate about how travel opens one’s eyes to the human experience around the world, and is honored to be part of the important work that Give Us Wings does in Uganda and beyond.

Other interests include theater, reading, and spending time at the cabin with family, friends, and dogs

Pat McGowan

Former State Senator, Sheriff, Security & Anit-Terrorism Expert

Patrick McGowan is a retired law enforcement executive with 32 years of law
enforcement experience, including 20 years with the Minneapolis Police
Department - where he was decorated for bravery and 12 years as Hennepin County
Sheriff.
He was a recognized Counter-Terrorism expert and in addition, taught college,
served as a guest lecturer and is a former Minnesota State Senator.
In 1988, while still serving with the Minneapolis Police Department, Mr.
McGowan was elected to the Minnesota State Senate:
 He held the distinction of being only the second police officer in the history
of our State ever elected to the Minnesota Senate.
 In 1989, he was selected as “Freshman Legislator of the Year” by “Politics
in Minnesota.”
 From 1991 to January 1995, he served as Assistant Republican Leader of
the Senate
 He was instrumental in all major crime legislation passed during his tenure
and received numerous honors while serving as a Minnesota State
Senator.

As Sheriff of Hennepin County:
 From January 2000 thru December 2001 - Sheriff McGowan served as
President of the Major County Sheriffs’ Association which was comprised
of the 82 largest Sheriff’s Offices in the United States. As one of the 4
original founders and President, he sat on sat on a Terrorism Advisory
Board to then FBI Director Bob Muller.
 In 2005, Sheriff McGowan was selected as “National Sheriff of the Year” by
the National Sheriffs’ Association which represents the 3,000 plus sheriffs
across America.
 He retired as Hennepin County Sheriff at the end of 2006.
Additionally, he is a veteran of the United States Air Force – Honorably Discharged.
